The Pennyfarthing residence is a sprawling outdoor patio with views of Granville Island and downtown Vancouver as its backdrop. The landscape design draws inspiration from the client’s Danish mid-century modern interior style and eclectic art collection, underpinned by the client’s love of native landscapes. This carefully curated outdoor space is an extension of the interior living spaces and a versatile environment catered to entertaining family and friends.

The patio features a dedicated dining area alongside multiple unique seating arrangements, carefully set amidst a lush, naturalized garden, complete with small basalt flagstone walking paths. The layout emphasizes comfort and style, enhancing gatherings and quiet moments with the surrounding beauty of nature.

To elevate the patio’s aesthetic and functionality, custom gunmetal-grey raised planters built over voiding elevate the landscape, providing ample privacy and a more natural feel to the space while minimizing weight constraints. Contrasted by straight metal edging and the clean lines of porcelain tile, the design strikes a balance between modern elegance and natural stillness, making it a captivating retreat in the heart of the city.
